Singapore law firm WongPartnership LLP announces the addition of Malaysian law firm Cheang & Ariff to WPG, a regional law network. WPG was established by WongPartnership in 2017 and today offers clients legal expertise and tailored solutions across Asia and the Middle East.

The growth and success of WPG enhances WongPartnership’s long-standing regional focus. More than 20 years ago, WongPartnership became one of the first Singapore law firms to establish a presence in China. Today, it offers full-service, multi-jurisdictional legal advice across Singapore, Asia, and the Middle East through the WPG in key markets, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. It stands out as a large Singapore law firm with strategic alliances in the Middle East.

WPG’s latest addition, Cheang & Ariff, is a highly regarded Malaysian law firm, consistently recognised by leading international legal publications. The firm is recognised for its strong focus on dispute resolution, as well as its corporate, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property practices. Cheang & Ariff join Foong & Partners, an existing member of WPG, to form the Malaysian network alliance of WPG. The two WPG Malaysia member firms combine complementary strengths to offer seamless, integrated legal services across corporate, financial services and dispute resolution.

Ng Wai King, Chairman and Senior Partner of WongPartnership LLP, said, “We welcome Cheang & Ariff to WPG. Their addition strengthens our capabilities across Asia and the Middle East. With their expertise on board, we are better placed to provide our clients with greater local insight and more seamless cross-border advice. We look forward to working closely with both our Malaysian network members to deliver greater value across the region.”

As a founding member of ASEAN and the current chair, Malaysia is a hub for economic activity in Southeast Asia. Its strategic location, well-developed infrastructure, and rising trade volumes—particularly with ASEAN partners—underscore its importance in regional integration. Its regional importance is evident through its participation in important trade agreements, including the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The RCEP comprises 15 countries in the Asia-Pacific region and is expected to enhance cross-border trade and investment flows.

Within Malaysia, emerging sectors such as e-commerce, renewable energy, and digital services are driving new areas of growth and deepening ties with regional markets. Bilateral relations between Malaysia and Singapore have advanced through recent high-level engagements and initiatives, such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which is projected to significantly benefit Singapore in areas including cross-border investment, sustainable technologies, and digital collaboration. Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to align its regulations with global standards, enhance logistics capabilities, and expand high-value manufacturing further reinforce the potential for deeper economic cooperation in the region.

As Malaysia’s economic influence within the ASEAN region grows, WongPartnership and its Malaysian member firms in WPG are well placed to support their clients.
